GPCG HISTORY

Began 50 years ago as a prayer band under the leadership of the late Elder Leo B. Joshua and Evangelist Ernestine Joshua. After the ministry went from house to house for a time, God established the group as an official church in 1973 at 6567 Joseph Avenue.
On a Mission from God, the members followed their leaders while for many years; Elder and Evangelist Joshua worked together to establish the Pentecostal Church of God. As a growing church, many efforts were made to locate a building that would accommodate all the aspects of the ministry. 4114 Natural Bridge was the open door, and after renovations the church moved in. Membership thrived -- this too would soon become inadequate in size and accommodations. God revealed to Evangelist Joshua in a vision, a beautiful church with brown brick in Walnut Park. This was a place she had never even heard of; and yet two year later God led them to 5501 Oriole in Walnut Park, just as He had shown. This new location included space for everything the ministry desired to do for the Lord, including the Pentecostal Church Christian Academy. god continued to bless us and by His Spirit strengthen us for the upcoming trails.
On October 19,1987, the Pentecostal Church of God suffered the loss of Elder Leo Joshua -- only the beginning of what we would face. Just two years later, On October 21, 1989 Pastor Ernestine Joshua passed on to eternal life. These pillars of strength had been removed, yet we leaned on the all-sufficient God. During times of illness, Evangelist Joshua had the help of her son-in-law, Elder Coleman, who stood in the gap and demonstrated the. traits it would take to be the next leader of this great ministry.
Bishop Terence E. Coleman, having been approved by God and former leadership, became Pastor of the Pentecostal Church of God, but more changes would occur as the church underwent more testing. Elder Coleman prayerfully moved the congregation to 6818 Page where God had prepared Pastor Victoria brown to share space with us until in 1991 we moved to 8237 N. Broadway. After beautification, on May 22, 1992 the Presiding bishop of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World (P.A.W.) and Midwestern District Council (M.D.C.) dedicated our new place of worship and officially installed Elder Coleman as the Pastor of the Greater Pentecostal Church of God.
With Continued Growth, the Broadway location soon became too small and in 1998 we purchased 608 West Florissant from New Sunny Mount Church. This became our new home, and it was restitution from the Lord! Adequate space for worship, classrooms for Sunday School, a bookstore, beautiful conference room, offices for Pastor and First Land Coleman, and again a preschool were all available. In 2000, we established the Little Saints Child Development Center and employed staff for the church and for this new childrens center.
And here we are... The Lord has kep us through loss and has kept us through growth! In 2004 we renovated our sanctuary--it truly is a new time for the Greater Pentecostal Church of God! A new anointing has come, and we continue to go forward in the Lord! You, as a new member here, are now part of this great heritage!
